We’re teaming up with The Maker Shop to host a pinewood derby workshop at Astoria Woodworkers Collective!

We’ll give you a block of wood, and you’ll build your own gravity-powered racecar, then send it down a 32-foot track to see what happens.
Join us for an afternoon of designing, building, fine-tuning, painting, and racing your own custom pinewood derby car. Materials, tools, guided instruction, and some friendly competition will be provided. You’ll leave with a finished car, great memories, and a chance at glory.
Participants will receive guided instruction using tools including the band saw, scroll saw, chisel, rotary tool (Dremel), belt sander, and more to transform a block of pine into a one-of-a-kind racer.
This pinewood derby is meant to be social. Come solo or sign up with a friend, partner, coworker, sibling, or someone you really want to beat, and meet fellow racers at the shop. You’ll spend the afternoon building alongside others and swapping ideas, before settling things on the track.

Shop Safety: PPE will be provided, but please note closed-toe shoes are required in the shop.
